100 Samurdhi Suwa Bojunhals to Empower Low-Income
Communities
The Samurdhi Suwa Bojunhal project, implemented by the Department
of Samurdhi Development, Ministry of Rural Development, Social Security and
Community Empowerment under the programs to empower low-income communities in
the island, has been planned to be implemented in every Divisional Secretariat
Division.
One Suwa Bojunhal will provide income opportunities to ten
(10) women in the relevant Divisional Secretariat Division. Accordingly, it is
expected to empower 3410 women in the 341 Divisional Secretariat Divisions of
the island. This will provide an opportunity for each person to earn an income
of about Rs. 50,000 per month.
20 Samurdhi Suva Bojunhals have already been opened and it
is planned to increase it to 50 by the end of March this year. The Ministry's
target is to establish 100 Suva Bojunhals by 2026.
A meeting was held with the District Project Managers of the Department of Samurdhi Development at the Ministry Auditorium yesterday (24) to discuss this matter. The Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Rural Development, Social Security and Community Empowerment, Ms. Sanitha Piyasena, Director (Marketting) of the Department of Samurdhi Development, Mr. Susantha Kitsiri, and a group of officials were present on this occasion.
