Entrepreneurship Development Program

Entrepreneurship Development Program

The Department of Samurdhi Development has implemented Entrepreneurship development programs in 25 districts to enhance the economic development process of low-income earners while maintaining their standard of living at a high level.

Objective            

The primary objective is to improve the living standards of the Aswesuma beneficiaries and low-income communities by increasing their income levels and maintaining them sustainably. To contribute directly to national economic growth by developing the knowledge and skills of entrepreneurs, manufacturing products with high quality and finish, establishing a stable market, selling and advertising products island-wide, building a satisfied consumer community, obtaining a fair price for the product, launching various job-oriented vocational training and language training programmes, and making environmentally friendly job opportunities more common, thereby empowering the entrepreneur economically and socially.

Programmes Implemented under this program

  1. Establishing a network of Samurdhi Mini Food City stalls.
  2. Providing NVQ certificates under the RPL system.
  3. Implementing vocational guidance programmes for youth from Aswesuma and low-income families.
  4. Implementing an employment programme through training in the tourism sector.
  5. Implementing vocational training programmes for apprentices.
  6. Implementing capacity development programmes for entrepreneurs.
  7. Implementing programmes for training women on the preparation of non-toxic food products.
  8. Implementing resource mapping programmes.
  9. Implementing programmes to provide assistance for the acquisition of land where Suwa Bojun Stalls are located.

In addition, programmes were implemented in collaboration with other government and non-government institutions without using Treasury funds.

Japanese Language Training Programme :-

The programme to provide Japanese Language Proficiency to youth from Aswesuma, Samurdhi and low-income families was jointly implemented by the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau and the Department of Social Services. The Japanese language course was implemented at 24 centers. The opportunity to appear for monthly mock exams and international exams was provided. 

Tourism and Hotel Training Programme:-

Youth from Aswesuma and low-income families have been trained in the tourism and hotel sector.

The Samurdhi Officer Training of Trainer Programme (TOT) against Safe Migration and Human Trafficking was conducted in Sinhala and Tamil media covering all Districts with the financial and technical support of SAFE FOUNDATION.
